Analysis of
Quantitative Data
To analyze
the data, I first looked at the quantitative data from the survey sent to
English Language Arts and Special Education teachers at Greenfarm Middle
School. First, I located the mean of
each survey question. Then, I located
the standard deviation of each survey question.
Then, I found the frequency of each question in regards to how many
times each particular answer was selected.
After
analyzing the quantitative data collected through the staff survey, I analyzed
the quantitative data of the 37 student AIMSweb reports. First, I recorded fall and spring
benchmarking scores for reading fluency and reading comprehension on two
separate spreadsheets. The first spreadsheet,
Group A, consisted of data on 18 students identified as tier 2 or tier 3
readers, who received daily reading intervention throughout the 2012-2013
school year. The second spreadsheet,
Group B, consisted of 19 students who were also identified as tier 2 or tier 3
readers, but did not receive consistent daily reading intervention. Then I located the mean and standard
deviation of each group’s fall benchmarking scores, spring benchmarking scores,
and fall to spring range. I then located
the frequency of the number of special education and regular education students
in each group and the number of students in each skill level (below average,
average, above average) per group.
Analysis of
Qualitative Data
To analyze the qualitative data I
collected, I first created a chart for the two qualitative questions located on
the staff survey. I read through each
survey response and made a list of possible codes. I coded using a different color for each
code. After dissecting each response, I reflected on the color-coding to see 4
common themes. The four common themes
for the survey data were: time, interventions, implementation, and
results. After coding the data, I
created a new chart and placed each result in to a box correlating with the
theme identified. The themes most
focused on were: time, interventions, and implementation.
To analyze the qualitative data
collected through interviewing two staff members, I recorded the interview
responses onto one word document. Under
each question, I typed Mrs. Clark’s responses in red and Mrs. Olds responses in
blue. I read through each response
multiple times, coding similar responses.
After coding, I made a list of the common themes throughout the
interview.
